(May 14, 2014, Montclair, CA)  On Day 3 the focus was the rear axle housing. We had two housings to choose from. Both were graded on how much deviation the axle had from being true, the condition of third member bolt holes and overall condition. This was an important step because the current axle housing was damaged from an aftermarket traction bar that had failed on a previous trip.

This failure ripped the bolts for the third member out of the the axle housing damaging the threads. This was causing them to lose the ability to retain their proper torque. They were constantly getting loose from daily driving. Based on the experience, we only recommend traction bars as an absolute last resort. Deal with the core issues of improper perch height and weaken springs.

The "EPIC TREK" SPOA Suzuki Samurai Suspension was specifically designed to work with out a traction bar and is excellent for Samurai's with stock motors and beyond. I know Brent's own 2.3L Samurai runs it.

Anyway, we decided to use the axle obtained from Craigslist since hit had less issues than the one off the truck. The Axle was cleaned and  wire brushed prior to a light coat of paint before the TT Axle Housing Gusset was tacked into place and the E-Brake cable mount relocated.

More to follow on Day 4..........

(May 14, 2014, Montclair, CA)  On Day 2 after work, both sides has the shock and bump stops removed and ground down. The tool of the day was a reciprocating saw with a 12" blade and a hand grinder. It is amazing how string the factory welds were.

The new Trail Tough Products TT Towers will be welded to the frame. This took about two hours from start to finish.

More to follow on Day 3..........

(May 14, 2014, Montclair, CA)  The preparation for the Trail Tough "EPIC TREK" SPOA Suzuki Samurai Suspension started early on a Saturday morning. It took about four hours to take the 1987 Suzuki Samurai from a working vehicle to being supported on jack stands.

The axles were completely dissembled for service and inspection. They will need to have the perches and shock mounts welded on along with the optional TT Axle Housing Gussets.

The next step is continued in Day 2

(May 13, 2014, Montclair, CA) The Oil Twins are excited to partner with Trail Tough Products to help promote their line of quality products in the SoCal market. The highly recognizable Oil Twin’s Suzuki Samurai will be used as a working show piece for Trail Tough both on and off the trail. The Samurai will be displayed proudly with Trail Tough Products on the hood at local tradeshows and events in addition to several trail runs in the local San Bernardino Mountains.

The first step is to transform the suspension system by changing out everything from the frame to the axle with Trail Tough’s "EPIC TREK" SPOA Suzuki Samurai Suspension. Both axle housings will be strengthened with the Trail Tough Front Axle Gusset Kit. The process is already underway and it will make its debut at Forest Fest 17, Father's Day Weekend 2014.

“We are looking forward to getting show off the performance of the Epic Trek suspension. Hands down it offers the best overall performance both on and off road. Brent really knows how these trucks work and what it takes to get them to handle properly,” said Andy Jones of the Oil Twins. “I have been a customer of Trail Tough since I purchased my Samurai. AMSOIL - Oil Twins Race Teams Shine at the APBA - BLUE WATER SPRING CLASSIC PRESENTED BY HOTBOAT.COM KYLE BEMENT MEMORIAL RACE

MONTCLAIR, CA- The AMSOIL - Oil Twins drove home Sunday with big smiles on their faces. The smiles were compliments of all the teams and racers associated or sponsored by the two. "We had a team on the podium in almost every class" said Casey. "But the biggest reason for the smiles is from our A Stock Hydroplane (Casey Jones, driver) winning the weekend for the first time."

After entering the sport in August of 2013 and racing at three events, the Oil Twins were able to win the weekend in the ASH class the first time. A series of events lead to the victory, "Casey nailed the start in his first heat and fought rough water to take the win", said Andy Jones (crew chief). "With all racers 'jumping the gun' in the final, cancelling the heat, and Sunday's race being cancelled due to the wind, Casey became the winner of the event..." A big "congratulations" goes out to the team as they prepare for their next race at Lake Minden May 31st & June 1st.

In other action, the K-28 driven by Steve Sequiera won the K Racing Runabouts (K-Boats) class. K-Boats are a propeller-driven inboard boat. The engines and fuel are virtually unlimited, almost anything goes. These boats are fast, competition speeds over 100 MPH. Steve's boat is powered with motor from PFAFF Engines, protected by AMSOIL. "We are proud to be apart of the K-Boat 'Back to the Future' race team", said Jones. "When the K-Boats are on the water, the crowd is watching and Steve gave them plenty to see."

In the Pro-Stock and Super-Stock class there is only one #1 and it belongs to "Bucks up" Racing. "We started working with the 'Bucks up' Racing this year", Jones explained. "The team is deeply rooted on the world of boat racing. Everyone knows who 'Bucks up" Racing is. If you don't, you will learn very quick. We would like to congratulate the team on the win and thank them for choosing the AMSOIL-Oil Twins to protect their engine."
