Project Samurai - Bypass Filtration

Some may suggest a bypass filter on a 1.3L Suzuki Samurai engine is overkill, but there are benefits beyond clean oil. For a small four quart system the quart increase in oil capacity is 25%. This helps the oil last longer, maintain proper viscosity and keeps the engine running cooler.

The Ea By-Pass Oil Filter (EaBP) provides the best possible filtration protection against wear and oil degradation. Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, the AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filter operates by filtering oil on a “partial-flow” basis. It draws approximately 10 percent of the oil pump’s capacity at any one time and traps the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants that full-flow filters can’t remove. The AMSOIL Ea Bypass Filter typically filters all the oil in the system several times an hour, so the engine continuously receives analytically clean oil.

For our build we used a AMSOIL BMK-21 mounting kit, EaBP-90 and a Top Dog V available from to make the bypass connection. This saved time and made a clean in and out path with out having to drill or alter the engine. The extra protection of the magnets in the Top Dog V are an added plus for protection. An AMSOIL full flow Ea15k51 was used in the stock location.
